New trade agreement announced between Washington and Tokyo

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday announced the preliminary details of a new trade agreement between the two countries.

Trump said he would open Japanese markets to $7 billion worth of U.S. products, adding that negotiators from both sides would continue the talks.

At the signing ceremony with Abe on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly, Trump said the first phase of the agreement will include $40 billion in digital trade between the world’s largest economy and the world’s third-largest economy.
